Vaughn L. Christensen
Vaughn
L. Christensen, 89, enjoyed incredible health and complete independence until he
peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He
constantly sought opportunities to serve family, friends, community and his
Heavenly Father. His capacity to love was felt by all that knew him. He was
truly a giant among men. He was born March 1, 1916 in Sanford, CO. Industrious
and hard working he spent some time as farmer in Colorado, but most of his life
was spent as a successful masonry contractor in Farmington, New Mexico. After
retirement he spent the last 26 years of his life in Mesa/ Gilbert, Arizona
area. This time was filled in service to his church, family and friends. Vaughn
is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Vaughn. He is survived by his wife of
nearly 70 years, Irene Cardon Christensen, and 8 children: Carole (Irvin)
Mathews, Janice (Marvin) Loar, Steve (Candace) Christensen, Marvin (Alice)
Christensen, David (Deena) Christensen, Lynette (Craig) Carver, Maureen (Dru)
Wyeth, and Mark Christensen. He is survived also by 61 grandchildren, and 93
great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 13 from 6:00 to
8:00 p.m. at Bunker Funeral Homes- University Chapel, 3529 E. University Drive,
Mesa, AZ 85213. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m.
with visitation from 1:00-1:30 p.m. prior to services at the LDS Val Vista Stake
Center, 1005 N. Voyager, Gilbert, Arizona. A Memorial Fund has been established
in lieu of flowers for Irene Christensen at P.O. Box 856, Gilbert, Arizona
