OGDEN - Dephna (Dea)
Christensen Shaw Terry, 97, died peacefully Wednesday, January 28,
2004 at the Crestwood Care Center in Ogden, Utah. She was born
October 14, 1906 in Bear River City, Utah to Hans and Rosa Schwab
Christensen.
Dea married W. Rulon Shaw in the
Salt Lake Temple on December 11, 1929. He passed away August 24,
1971. She then married William Terry, March 8,1977 he later passed
away.
Dea was a Stake and Ward organist and also wrote dedication music
for the 33rd Ward chapel.
She was an artist, seamstress, musician and composer. She also wrote
may poems and illustrations for "The Children's Friend." She played
the piano for Shorty Ross's Band. Dea played the organ at the Ogden
and Salt Lake Tabernacle and also was an organist for Leavitt's
Mortuary for many, many years and also played for other mortuaries.
She worked with Rulon at their floral shop "Garden Floral" doing
floral arrangements and corsages.
Dea handmade temple and wedding clothing. She was very creative
in knitting, crocheting, and did beautiful handwork. She belonged to
the Debonairs Dance Club.
Dea's whole life was devoted to her family, especially doing things
with her grandchildren. She will be loved and missed by all who knew
her.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Shaw (Angelo Brunetti),
Carolyn Shaw Longfellow (Rex Taylor); brother, Vern Christensen;
sisters, Donna Jones, Lenore Rose, June Wadman, and LaRue Redd; 12
grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 10 great-great
grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Crestwood
Care Center and Hospice for all there tender and loving care.
Services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at
Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden. Friends and family may
call Friday, January 30, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. and one hour
prior to the services at Leavitt's Mortuary.
Interment, Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park.
