Warren Starr
Warren Dean Starr, 64, of Vancouver, Wash., died of a brain aneurysm Jan. 26,
1999, in Portland, Ore.
He was born Dec. 1, 1934, in Springville, Utah, to Warren and
Faye (Cardon) Starr. He was raised in Springville. He received both a bachelor's degree and a
master's degree from Washington State University, later obtaining his doctorate
degree from the University of Idaho.
In 1995, he married Merrill Beattie in Vancouver, Wash.
Mr. Starr served in the Army from 1955 to 1963. He started as principal at A.C.
Davis High School, moving on to become deputy superintendent and then
superintendent. He was superintendent of Yakima Public Schools from 1975 until
his retirement in 1994. Following his retirement, he served as president and
general manager of KYVE public television in Yakima.
He was a member of Rotary, United Way, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and the
YMCA.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; a son, Warren of Yakima; three
daughters, Doreen Cartwright and Rachel Vincent, both of Silverdale and Melanie
of Walla Walla; a brother, Alfred of Yakima; a sister, Mary Ann Gass of Boise,
Idaho; eight grandchildren, Tiffany, Anthony, Audrey, Courtney, Jordan, Taylor,
Victoria and Morgan; and his former wife, Ione Helde.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Jan. 29 at Ross Hollywood Chapel in
Portland, Ore.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 30 at the First Congregational Church
in Portland.
There will be a private interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ross Hollywood Chapel.
