Woods Note: In the
1880 census there is a
Cornelia Woods, daughter of James D. Woods and Annie living in Show Law, Apache,
Arizona. Some IGI information shows that a Cornelia Woods married a Cardon
in 1883 in St. George. The census indicates that Cornelia was born in KS,
while a sister Annie age 11 was born in the UT territory. The IGI shows a
Cornelia that was born in Portersville, Morgan, UT, 5 Aug 1864. This IGI
Cornelia, also shown sometimes as Van Dam or Van Dan, died 7 Aug 1886. It
also shows her father is James T Woods and her mother is Annie Chandler.
The history of Joseph Samuel Cardon says that his trip to St. George was the
cause for his need to move to Mexico. His St. George trip was sometime
between 1881 and 9 Feb 1884. James Ellis was born to Joseph Samuel Cardon
and Cornelia in September of 1884 in Taylor, AZ and subsequently died in 1885 in
Mexico.
Cornelia Woods more than likely the name of the 2nd wife of Joseph Samuel Cardon, but I
can't find information on where the Van Dam name fits in, if at all. Nor
can I locate a death date for a Cornelia Van Dam. Late in March of 1884,
Joseph arrived in Mexico according to his autobiography. We think Cornelia
returned from Mexico after the death of her son and died shortly thereafter in Arizona. The IGI indicates that their son
James Ellis died in Arizona We think he died in Mexico. If anyone
has source documentation to back up our beliefs, please let me know, --
